One of the biggest nightmares for e-commerce store owners is their website failing silently while they spend their ad budget. Especially on platforms like Shopify, updating 3rd-party apps or making theme changes can render checkout buttons completely unresponsive.

Why Do Checkout Errors Happen "Silently"?

Usually, an e-commerce site doesn't crash completely (it doesn't throw a 502 Bad Gateway error). The site looks operational, product pages load, but when a customer clicks the "Add to Cart" or "Proceed to Checkout" button, nothing happens. This is called a silent failure.

  • A shipping or discount app installed from the Shopify App Store throws a Javascript error.
  • Temporary outages in payment gateway integrations (Stripe, PayPal, etc.).
  • The development team pushes an untested theme code change to the production environment.

Early Diagnosis with Synthetic Monitoring

Traditional "Uptime" tools (Pingdom, UptimeRobot, etc.) only check if your site's server is responding. If the server is running but the Checkout button is broken, these tools will report that "Everything is fine".

The only way to solve this is by using a real browser simulation (Chrome/Chromium) to physically click the button and test whether the checkout page actually loads.

Stop Guessing. Start Knowing.

UptimeClick visits your store as a mystery shopper every 15 minutes, adds your products to the cart, and proceeds to the checkout page. If there's an error, you get an alert instantly.
